Flying a drone

Everything you need to know

Safe use of drones

All drone or model aircraft flights including all sub 250g drones with a camera fitted, Commercial or Recreational, within or in the vicinity of the Land’s End Flight Restriction Zone (FRZ) and at any time of the day or night, require approval from Land’s End Air Traffic Control (ATC).

Approval typically follows a two-stage process:

  • Provisional approval is granted in advance.
  • Final verbal approval must then be obtained from the duty Air Traffic Controller immediately before the proposed flight(s).

Once provisional approval is granted, you will receive an approval letter. This letter requires you to:

  • Call Land’s End ATC before flying, so the duty controller can give final authorisation.
  • Call ATC again after your flying is complete, to confirm operations have ended.

This process ensures ATC maintains full awareness of drone activity in the area, helping to maximise safety for all airspace users.
